Rome Horoscope

Around 50 BC, the there were people who bought land from families whose farms had been devastated for cheap. These people were patricians called the latifundia, and they will bring the end to Rome’s great empire if they are not stopped. They were people who only cared about getting richer, and while they were doing this they left thousands of plebeians in rags. If these people keep on trampling everyone that gets in their way, Rome will fall and all of our hard work will be wasted.

When farmers went off to fight for Rome, they had to leave their families and farm behind. When they came back, all of their crops had been destroyed, and their families had sold their land to the latifundia. This left them with no home, and no source of income, so they were homeless. The latifundia were becoming extremely rich from this because they were buying the land for cheap, and then using huge amounts of slaves to work the land. They would not donate to the poor, and would not hire anyone that they would have to pay to do work. This left the poor plebeians homeless, jobless, and hopeless. With the latifundia gaining more and more money, and the poor plebeians not making any money at all, there was a huge decline in Rome’s economy.

This problem in Rome will eventually lead to its fall because the small farmer is the backbone of Roman society, but with all of their jobs taken by slaves they can’t do their jobs. The latifundia also have control over the government, because they have so much money that they can bribe senators. With the small farmers being farm-less, and the latifundia controlling Rome’s society, Rome was bound to fall. We needed someone who thought for these poor plebeians, and those two people came, but were both killed by the latifundia. The latifundia have control over everything that goes on in Rome, and need to be stopped before they can bring it to its fall.
