Interview with Roman Senator

Hello Rome, my name is Montyius Sagius, and I am here interviewing Tiberius Brutus, who is a patrician Roman senator, about what he thinks about many different topics.

• Tiberius, what do you think about Senators backing up the poor?

• Well Montyius, I think that they are caring people, but Rome isn’t great because of softies like these kinds of senators, it became powerful because of hardcore people like Romulus. Also, if we helped out the poor plebeians we would be giving them OUR stuff and that does the opposite of making us patricians richer. Over all, it is just not a good idea to try to help out these poor plebeians because you will either fail or be assassinated by people like the latifundia.

• How do you think Rome became so powerful?

• Rome became powerful because there were people who were determined and confident who wanted Rome to be great. For example, the brave decisions made by people in the army who wanted to win a battle, and would not let anything stop them. Also, Rome became powerful because there were people who made decisions that seemed atrocious at the time, but ended up being extremely necessary. One of these commonly debated decisions is Romulus killing his brother.

• What is your opinion on the rights of Plebeians?

• I think that it would make life better for me, but when it comes down to it we need the citizens of Rome to be equal. When patricians had more rights than plebeians, Rome wasn’t as powerful as it is today, so it shows that Rome is better when citizens are equal. Also, when we said no to the plebeians requesting for equality the first time, we brushed aside their request, but when they left us we realized how much we actually needed them. When it comes down to it, Rome is better off when patricians and plebeians have the same rights.

• What do you think about the safety of Rome?

• Right now, Rome is not very safe because we don’t have a police force. Our streets are riddled with crime and this needs to be ended. The poor plebeians living on the streets are in danger, and they should at least have safety in their lives after all they’ve been through. All of the criminals in Rome know that they can get away with almost anything, and we need to change this.
